Cold Calling Experiment – The Big One

I haven’t written a blog post in a while, because I have been busy with a whole load of stuff. Amongst them is the setting up of my cold calling experiment. And it is a big one.

A while back I wrote a blog post titled ‘Is Cold Calling Worth It?’. The basic answer is, yes, but it is horrible and tedious. So I have decided to take the horrible and the boring aspects out of it entirely.

You see – my business has been growing nicely and I have had to take on a bit more help. However, in doing this I find myself with some spare capacity. So instead of embarking on an all out internet PPC binge (geek talk), I decided to do something a little different.

I hired a cold calling company

So what the shizzle man? You probably didn’t think ‘shizzle’ per se, but you get the point. If I am so good at online marketing, then why do I need a cold calling company?

Well, the answer is simple. I wanted to see if it has a positive ROI. If it does, then why wouldn’t I invest in it? If I can get more business by not really doing anything apart from outlay some cash I would be an idiot to turn that down.

Also, the guys I hired seem to be top notch. I won’t reveal who they are just yet, not until I see some positive results anyhow, but I have a feeling this is going to be a good one.

So what is the structure?

This company is going to call 800+ businesses in my local area and offer them a free website consultation. They schedule the appointments, they send the brochure, and I just turn up and pitch to them.

They usually get 3-4 face to face meetings per week. All I need to do is close one of them per month and I have broken even.

I will update you guys on how it is going. If it works, I will hire these guys permanently.
